A4 Gi Size: Height, Weight and Who It Fits

Short answer: A4 fits 188–196 cm (6′2″–6′5″) and 102–113 kg (225–249 lb). A plain A-size, no cut applied. It sits near the top of the range, where the cut starts to matter more than the number.

Where these sizes start, stop and overlap. Bands that share a weight range but not a height range are the ones people get wrong.

How to know it's you

If a gi has ever fitted you without you thinking about it, you are the build the A-series was drawn for and A4 is where your numbers land. The moment you start noticing the sleeves or the back, the fix is a cut — Long or Wide — not a different number.

If A4 is not quite it

Step down to A3 or up to A5 if the band is wrong on weight. If the problem is that one half of you is a different size from the other, order it that way: a jacket in one size and trousers in another is a normal order here. And if no combination on the chart works, custom sizing is $189 and is cut to your measurements.

Size has nothing to do with legality, but fit does. The IBJJF measures sleeve and trouser length against your wrist and ankle with the arm extended, and a gi that is too short fails at weigh-in. The full requirements cover colour, fabric and the measurement rules.
