BJJ Gi Size Chart: Find Your Fit by Height & Weight

Updated

Short answer: BJJ gis use A-series sizing (A0 through A5) based on a combination of your height and weight — not just one. Find the row below where both land. If your height and weight fall in different rows, go by weight, then pick the cut (Standard, Long, Wide, or Women's) that matches your build. Every All Around gi comes in all four cuts, and there's a live size finder on each gi page if you'd rather answer four questions and be told.

The standard chart (A0–A5)

This is the everyday adult/unisex fit. Match your height and weight; if they disagree, weight wins.

SizeHeightWeight
A05'0"–5'4" (152–163 cm)110–141 lbs (50–64 kg)
A15'4"–5'8" (163–173 cm)141–165 lbs (64–75 kg)
A25'8"–6'0" (173–183 cm)165–194 lbs (75–88 kg)
A35'11"–6'3" (180–190 cm)194–229 lbs (88–104 kg)
A46'2"–6'5" (188–196 cm)225–249 lbs (102–113 kg)
A56'5"–6'8" (196–203 cm)249–269 lbs (113–122 kg)

Pick your cut

Same A-size, different shape. The cut is what makes a gi feel made for you instead of close enough.

  • Standard — the classic fit. Most people.
  • Long (A1L–A3L) — tall for your weight? Long adds sleeve and pant length without sizing up into a baggy gi. It's a real in-stock size (same $119 as standard), not a special order.
  • Wide (A0W–A3W) — broader, stockier build. More room through the shoulders and waist.
  • Women's / Fitted (A00F–A2F) — tailored closer through the chest and hips.

How to find your size

  1. Measure your height — stand against a wall, heels down, and measure from the floor to the crown of your head.
  2. Note your weight — be honest; the gi doesn't care.
  3. Find your row in the standard chart where both your height and weight land. If they fall in different rows, go by weight.
  4. Choose your cut — tall for your weight → Long; broad or stocky → Wide; women → Women's; otherwise Standard.
  5. Between sizes or nothing fits? Go made-to-measure (below) instead of guessing.

Will my gi shrink?

Our gis are pre-shrunk 450 GSM pearl weave, so they move very little after the first few washes — size to the chart now, not to "it'll shrink to fit." Wash cold and hang dry to keep it that way; a hot dryer is the one thing that will pull a gi out of size (and, if you compete, out of the IBJJF length limits).

Between sizes, very tall, or built outside the chart?

If you're on the line between two rows, or your height and weight just don't agree with any single size, you have two good options: size to your weight and pick the cut that buys back the other dimension (Long for length, Wide for room) — or skip the guessing entirely and order a made-to-measure gi, cut to your exact measurements. That's the honest fix for proportions a size chart can't catch.

Frequently asked questions

What size BJJ gi am I?
Match your height and weight to the A-series chart (A0–A5). If they fall in different rows, go by weight, then choose the cut for your build — Standard, Long (tall for weight), Wide (broader), or Women's. Most people land on a Standard A1, A2, or A3.
Do BJJ gis go by height or weight?
Both — A-sizing is a combination of height and weight. When the two point to different sizes, weight is the better guide for the body of the gi, and you use the cut (Long or Wide) to fix the length or room.
I'm tall and skinny — what gi size?
You likely want a Long cut (A1L–A3L), which adds sleeve and pant length without sizing up into a baggy gi. It's a regular in-stock size at the same price as standard. If you're taller than the Long chart, order made-to-measure.
What if I'm between two gi sizes?
Size to your weight and pick the cut that buys back the other dimension (Long for length, Wide for room), or order a made-to-measure gi cut to your exact measurements — the reliable fix for in-between proportions.
Will a BJJ gi shrink after washing?
Our gis are pre-shrunk 450 GSM pearl weave, so they shift very little — size to the chart now. Wash cold and hang dry; only a hot dryer will shrink a gi meaningfully (and possibly out of IBJJF length limits).
