Sizing
A1W Gi Size: Height, Weight and Who It Fits
Updated
Short answer: A1W fits 163–173 cm (5'4"–5'8") and 73–88 kg (161–194 lb). It is the Wide cut of A1: the same lengths with more room through the chest and seat.
Against a plain A1 it is +4 cm jacket chest, +2 cm trouser waist. Everything else is identical to A1: jacket wingspan, jacket length, trouser length.

How to know it's you
If the jacket pulled across the back the moment you posted up or framed, the problem is width, not length. Sizing up adds length you did not need; A1W adds the width you did.
Is A1W you?
Two numbers and we’ll tell you straight, including when the answer is a different size.
The finished gi, measured flat
Wingspan is cuff to cuff, jacket length is collar to hem, chest is laid flat. These are the numbers the size is cut to, not an estimate from the chart.

If A1W is not quite it
Step down to A0W or up to A2W if the band is wrong on weight. If the problem is that one half of you is a different size from the other, order it that way: a jacket in one size and trousers in another is a normal order here. It is the option we ship most after the plain A-sizes, which tells you how many people the standard grid does not fit.
And if no combination on the chart works, custom sizing is $189 and is cut to your measurements.
Is A1W IBJJF legal?
Size has nothing to do with legality, but fit does. The IBJJF measures sleeve and trouser length against your wrist and ankle with the arm extended, and a gi that is too short fails at weigh-in. The full requirements cover colour, fabric and the measurement rules.
