A2W Gi Size: Height, Weight and Who It Fits

Short answer: A2W fits 173–183 cm (5′8″–6′0″) and 86–102 kg (190–225 lb). It is the Wide cut of A2: the same lengths with more room through the chest and seat.

Against a plain A2 it is +6 cm jacket chest, +4 cm trouser waist. Everything else is identical to A2: jacket wingspan, jacket length, trouser length.

Where these sizes start, stop and overlap. Bands that share a weight range but not a height range are the ones people get wrong.

How to know it's you

If the jacket pulled across the back the moment you posted up or framed, the problem is width, not length. Sizing up adds length you did not need; A2W adds the width you did.

Is A2W you?

Two numbers and we’ll tell you straight, including when the answer is a different size.

Wingspan is cuff to cuff, jacket length is collar to hem, chest is laid flat. These are the numbers the size is cut to, not an estimate from the chart.

If A2W is not quite it

Step down to A1W or up to A3W if the band is wrong on weight. If the problem is that one half of you is a different size from the other, order it that way: a jacket in one size and trousers in another is a normal order here. About one gi in ten we shipped between 31 July and 29 September 2026 went out that way, and the mixed-size gi guide shows how to pick the pair.

And if no combination on the chart works, custom sizing is $189 and is cut to your measurements.

Size has nothing to do with legality, but fit does. The IBJJF measures sleeve and trouser length against your wrist and ankle with the arm extended, and a gi that is too short fails at weigh-in. The full requirements cover colour, fabric and the measurement rules.
